Never TOO OLD!!

Unless you have significant health issues that forbid you to run, then I am going to say you are never too old to achieve small or even really big running dreams. Whether it’s completing a 5k at parkrun or even a marathon, if you find a routine that works for you and your body, it CAN BE DONE (and I can help you do this!).

  • These are the factors that you need to consider that will set you up for running success, no matter your age;

  • Setting your week up so you get enough rest

  • Mobility - stretching, yoga etc

  • Active recovery and cross training - cycling, walking, swimming (whatever works for you)

  • Fueling appropriately

  • Having a support team such as massage, physio, chiro.

Take a look at Desmond’s story below, we have been working together since early 2025, and once we got a routine that worked for him (it took a little trial and error) he trained consistently right up to marathon day. This included things like using a spin workout to complement his running, strength once a week, rest day before his long run (initially he was doing parkrun the day before but it became too much, and that’s ok!), volunteering at parkrun for the social aspect, occasional faster running session (but only occasional), and as the marathon drew closer deliberately adding run/walking to his long run so that when the time came to run/walk in the marathon, he was ready and used to it.

This schedule he could stick to week in, week out - and not burn out when the runs got really long. We backed it off as needed. And he had once successful day at Sydney marathon, crossing just before the cutoff, very proud and very ready for a few weeks off!!

Desmond’s Story

For context, towards the end of 2024 I decided I needed a specific goal to improve my fitness. As someone who had run competitively as a young man (including 2 marathons) and been an on/off runner for a long time, I decided to go into the ballot for the Sydney Marathon. When I got in to the race I decided to use a reputable app. to get me through the training. But I needed something more personable and by chance I saw Kate’s profile on social media.

Kate has thoughtfully and professionally guided me through many months of training to get me to the start and finish line of the 2025 Sydney Marathon. Kate was so supportive, believing in me even when I doubted myself. It felt like we worked together to get me through the process. It’s not easy but it’s so worthwhile and my love of running grew and grew with each run, even the long ones! It’s been a brilliant journey, made all the easier by Kate. I wanted to get through the race in the 7 hours cut off and had no interest in my time and she respected my decision. During the race the inevitable dark storm of doubt hovered but I was settled by remembering Kate’s words about trusting the process and staying calm.

I’m incredibly proud of myself for achieving my goal and rediscovering my love of running in my mid 60’s. Put simply, I couldn’t have done that without Kate. And it’s actually more than the one race, as big as it was. This is now a foundation not just for my running but my overall health and wellbeing.

The added bonus is the mutual support from the other athletes coached by Kate, who are scattered across the country.

I am very happy to recommend Kate.
