Bernadette: The first time being coached after running for 3.5 years and Kates coaching gave me the tools and the confidence to run Blackmores marathon with a 12 minute PB from the previous year and a strong finish. I could not have asked for more!!
Jane Anderson: After 25 years off from exercise in any format, I had been running for 6 months and it was becoming increasingly clearer that I needed someone to help me achieve my goals. Kate's name kept popping up, and I dived in. As an expert runner herself, I was always treated like an athlete, with no judgement, and an appropriate training program was given that was completely suitable for my goals and more. I have now been with Kate 18 months, and love not just her ongoing faith in me, but her ability to make me a much, much better runner than I ever thought possible. I'm still not great, but have a secret goal of being a 25min 5km runner. She can get me there. My advice: do yourself a favour, get onboard Kate's team
Jody: I had been running for about 12 months on my own and doing ok but not really pushing myself, until I signed up with Kate about 9 months ago. I was at a point where I wanted to do better, wanted to compete, wanted to challenge myself. Kate has been exactly what I was looking for to gain improvement and self- confidence with my running. You give her your goals/dreams and she will help you get there. Most important was the flexibility she allows in my program when work or family commitments have to come first. She listens if I'm injured and adjusts accordingly or if I'm feeling flat she reminds me of my goals or how far I've come in the journey. That's important.
An unexpected bonus comes with the support you receive from the Coach Kate Crew on Facebook. The will always know when you're struggling for motivation in training or nervous before an event. The girls will always have your back. It's invaluable.
Sarah: I took up running a couple of years ago and it is a skill that doesn’t come naturally to me. I have always been a back of the pack runner which is fine because there is plenty of fantastic company back there! I signed up with Kate in February and I have never looked back. I am running more, without injury and I am running faster. The highlight so far has been achieving a goal which I thought was impossible – the sub 2 hour half marathon. My previous PB was 2:13:33 and under Kate’s coaching I smashed that time at the Gold Coast to 1:55:28. I could not have done this without Kate’s guidance and individual training plan. If you want to improve your running and you are committed to training – Kate is your coach!
Roanna: I signed up with Kate at the start of the year with the aim of a Marathon PR at Canberra in April. My previous marathons I had followed generic training plans (sort of) and thought the more I ran, the better prepared I would be. Kate had me reduce quantity but increase the quality. It made me nervous but I committed to the process and learnt to trust Kate. Knowing she believed in me and thought I was capable of it, even when I wasn’t sure myself, meant I attempted something I never would have on my own. And I smashed it! Just the right preparation, taper and pacing strategies, and personal support meant a perfect race and a nearly 20min PR (and a sneaky 5k PR during training!). Thanks Kate, looking forward to the next challenge!
Suzie: Thanks to Coach Kate, I have come so far in just 5 months! When I started with Kate in July 2014 I couldn't even run for more than 2 minutes without stopping to walk. In October I ran the 15km Kurrawa to Durranbah race in 1:36 and in 2 weeks I am running a Half Marathon!! Thanks to Kate's awesome plans and support my 5km PB has gone down by 9mins and my 10km PB has dropped by 8mins. I have also lost 15kgs over the 5 months thanks to Kate's encouragement and inspiring me to keep at it even when family life gets busy or illness hits! In 2015 my goal is to run 5 Half Marathon's and I know I can achieve it! Kate has taught me so much that now I am able to share my knowledge and passion for running with my friends and our local parkrun community. Thanks Kate!
Christine: I decided to take up running on January 1st this year - by going along to my local parkrun. My first event involved some walking, and an overall time of 28 minutes 30. I kept going along each week, and whilst my times were slowly improving I knew that if I wanted to see some decent improvement I would need to make some serious changes.
I was lucky enough to win two months free coaching with Kate through the RMA (Running Mums Australia) Facebook page. Kate got in touch with me and asked me what my goal was and what amount of time I had to devote to training. I said that I wanted to crack the 25 minute mark for the 5k parkrun, and Kate managed to write me out a schedule that factored in my limited free time and suited me and my family perfectly. I want to say a huge thanks to Kate for helping me smash the 25 minute mark - my new PB is 24 minutes 32 and with what Kate has taught me I think I can see a sub 24 minute parkrun in my near future!
I would not hesitate to recommend Kate to anyone who is interested in making their running dreams a reality
Karen: In 2012, I decided I’d do a triathlon before I turned 40. Although I’ve always been athletic, I could only sort of ride a bike, I could hardly swim and I didn’t enjoy running. Lucky for me, Kate was in the swim squad I joined and we also started cycling together. I hung on her every word when she had tips for me in swimming, cycling and particularly in running (which I needed most). It was clear that Kate was incredibly knowledgeable about the ins and outs of running including technique, physiology, philosophy, pacing and equipment and mostly I admired her amazing determination, her dedication and her obvious passion for running. Kate inadvertently became my triathlon coach and she supported me both physically and mentally in so many ways through my first years of triathlons (I’ve now done 5).
Kate’s love for running slowly began to rub off on me. In fact, surprisingly, I’ve pretty much racked my bike and I just can’t wait to get out there and RUN…I attribute this to Kate! With her encouragement, I have achieved all my running goals to date…this includes these pb’s: a 20 minute 5k, 47 minute 10k and most recently, my first half marathon at 1hr42! Before I started running, I used to see Kate running strong and tall around our town in all manner of ghastly weather conditions and now… I’m so proud and excited because I’m running next to her!!! Believe me… Kate is a Run Whisperer!
Catherine: Kate has been my inspiration to run. I am naturally very unenthusiastic about exercise of all kinds, but I knew I had to do something for fitness and mental health. Kate was able to work out ways I could start running, taking into consideration my low level of fitness and the demands of my three children. Gradually, spurred on by Kate’s encouragement and determination, I have managed to progress to running for 25 minutes (3.5km) without stopping, and I have entered a 5.7km event at the Gold Coast in July. Kate seems just as excited and enthusiastic about my small steps of achievement as she is about her own awesome marathon results. This is incredibly affirming and heart-warming for me as a new (and very slow) runner.
Nicole Bunyon: I followed Kate's blog for some time and I just loved her passion for running which I also shared and she joined my online group Running Mums Australia in 2013. I knew as soon as I started talking to Kate that she would be an amazing fit for RMA and its vision, to encourage other mums to run and achieve their running dreams, so I asked Kate to come on board as our resident coach. Kate has a passion for running that I think few possess. Her passion is infectious and her determination to reach her running goals is inspiring. I asked Kate if she would coach me for my up and coming 2014 Gold Coast Marathon. This was my second marathon, but I really wanted to run this one with the purpose of achieving a PB. Kate's attention to detail in my training program and her dedication to helping me achieve my goals throughout my training made me feel in control and confident in my abilities to run the marathon that I had hoped. Not only did I achieve an amazing PB on the day, I have made a life-long friend who I now share my passion of running and empowering running women.
